Barcelona, The Gracia District, An Authentic One
I’ll say it’s my fave district because it’s been able to keep a lot of its customs and parties with a powerful Catalan spirit. It is very “alive” and everything can be found in there, including many life-changing Barcelona Apartments. Prior to it being a tiny village but in 1897, it’s been integrated to join the city and it modified from village to district.
Shops are mainly found at Gran de Gracia Street and I like to walk in Verdi Street where I can find restaurants, bars, shops, movies in their original language, supermarkets… In spite that there are numerous places like Plaza del Sol, Plaza del Diamante… I only prefer 2 – Plaza de la Virreina and Plaza de Rius i Taulet.
The 1st one as it is close to a bar at Santa Creu Street ( there’s just one so if you’d like to go, you cannot miss it ) where I am going frequently to take my tea and during summer time or bright day, I am able to drink a Coke by seating on one of the patios and enjoy the heat. The second one is a handy place to eat encircled by trees and in the middle, a clock tower in front of the mayor of Gracia thereby giving it a kind of charm. Often concerts are organized in both places.
The other streets where I will go to purchase things are Via Augusta, Travessera de Gracia and Asturies streets. Naturally there are several more like Balin, Corsega… But those are the ones I go often and with that, it is sufficient to find what i need.
One of the finest theatre theater Bosque ( rambla de prat ) is located in this district because it isn’t simple to get a good place to observe a production with nice surroundings and a huge screen, although it is only in Spanish. For folks who don’t master the language, they can go to Verdi theatre to look at them in their original language but they don’t put smash films – just one time I saw that they didn’t respect their rule which was for The Matrix!!!
It’s not simple to walk and even local people get lost in this area. Fortunately for me, when I arrived at Barcelona in 2k, my first residence was in this district so I learned quickly its secret and now I can go without the help of a map!!!
The Passeig de Sant Joan is the best place for me to skate but only between Avinguda Diagonal and Travessera de Gracia because the center is a pedestrian section, I just have to try to not fall on someone!!!
